GF3

Engine G684, off test Sept 1923, local tourer (possibly built by Waring Bros for) 'Kellow Falkiner' via Dalgety to D Boyd, 'Barooga' station, Cobram, NSW., R Foster& Son, Victorian Caravan Services, Prahran, Melb., 1930's. A C Tye & Co., Melb. 1930's. Sold by Alan C Tye as utility reg'd Vic 40 827 on 22/8/1956 to Helsham H Wheeler, Euroa, Vic. Police records imply engine swaps but in fact the 1934 Supreme coachwork (with vertical shuttered radiator) and registration Vic 193 155 from GDK2 were swapped in 1957 by Helsham H Wheeler. Derek Gibson, Melb., Nov 1966, reg'd Vic 1 025; Tom Stevenson, Urrbrae, S.A. 1989 & 2004.

At Bendigo Swap I have obtained a lot of reg'n papers from the Wheeler estate. They clarify GF3 / GDK2 and also GCK69 / 83K7.

GCK69 & 83K7 were bought by H H Wheeler from H N Halford (receipt per G M Halford) for 100pds on 13/4/1964. A note dated 30/4/1964 states "Neither vehicles are (sic) roadworthy as Car engine G1532 (GCK69) was dismantled when I bought it Car engine G550 (83K7) also had the body, mudguards, lamps & electric wiring removed. Neither vehicle had any number plates or current labels on them."

A moth eaten typed page for G550 - 83K7 has owners from 11/2/1932 thru to 14/6/49. Did Terry Bruce ever live in Westgate St. Oakleigh in the 1950s?

With regard to GDK2. I have the purchase receipt from George F Harris to H H Wheeler for 125pds on 7/12/1953 for GDK2, G1055, blue/black sedan. Also Vic Gov Assessment for this with Reg No 193-155 dated 15/12/1953.

Dr Tom Stevenson in Adelaide has a Shipping Invoice dated 4/8/1934 from J Compton UK via SS 'Barradine" to G F Harris, 23 Rathmines St. Fairfield Vic. This is the chassis fitted with the Supreme body paid for on 21/12/1934 at 228pds 18 shillings.

With regard to GF3 There is a sale advert & letter dated 17/7/56 from Allan C Tye of Selby selling a RR utility. 10pd deposit sent by H H Wheeler on 8/8/1956. Vic Assessment notice paid on 4/9/56 for Rolls Utility G864; transferred from A C Tye on 22/8/56 to H H W. Vic reg'd No 40-827 expiring on 1/3/57.

Cert of Reg'n & Insurance Cert dated 20/12/57 with blue/black sedan body, engine G684M (sic) & reg'd No 193-155 suggests that the Supreme body & Number plates were transferred from GDK2 by Wheeler in 1957 to GF3.

There is also a pencil draft letter from Wheeler dated 20/6/59 to W Vears giving details of his current R-Rs. There are numerous mistakes such as stating that Silver Ghost Reg No GB-048, engine E20742, Martin & King sedan is chassis GDK2. He has mixed up details SG, GDK2 & GF3.

I think the histories should read:
